Careers Education Information, Advice and Guidance

Levenshulme High School works hard to ensure that all our students have the opportunity to make informed decisions about their future. Levenshulme High School has achieved the national Quality in Careers Standard for its careers education, information, advice and guidance provision. This is awarded by Inspiring IAG which is a Licensed Awarding Body for the national standard.

The designated careers lead for Levenshulme High School is Mrs A Qureshi.

To speak to someone about Careers please phone the main school number and ask for Mrs Qureshi.

Mrs A Qureshi
Work Related learning Coordinator

My responsibilities as a Work Related Learning Coordinator are to coordinate the provision of a quality careers education, information, advice and guidance service to students of Levenshulme high school in line with statutory guidance and school careers strategy. My role involves working with partners and developing a programme of events, information sessions, work experience and trips that support this provision. I also plan and coordinate STEM activities and opportunities for the school. I am passionate about raising the aspirations of our students.

Mrs S Acton (Wed/Thu)
Careers Advisor

Working as a Level 6 qualified careers advice and guidance practitioner, I am passionate about supporting students in making important decisions in their lives. I support Levenshulme High School pupils on their career path and also help them to overcome any barriers to learning and employment opportunities.

Mr N Johnson
Deputy Head Teacher

One of my strategic responsibilities as a Deputy Head Teacher at Levenshulme High School is to ensure that all students have up-to-date, accurate and inspirational advice and guidance regarding Further Education, Higher Education and Career pathways.  I am passionate about making sure all of our students know the choices available to them, that they have high expectations and can access the right information to make the right decisions about their futures.

Ms K Simkiss

Enterprise Adviser

We are pleased to introduce Kelly Simkiss as our school’s Enterprise Adviser.

Enterprise Advisers use their knowledge of the local business landscape to support the careers team in school to develop an effective careers plan and to create opportunities with their business contacts in the area for our students.

Please see a short biography of Kelly’s career journey.

Having completed an MChem in Chemistry and Enterprise Management at the University of Sheffield, and being offered a number of PhD’s with the University, Kelly chose to take a completely different path and returned home to Manchester and started the United Utilities General Management graduate scheme.  Kelly stayed at United Utilities for 3 years, completing her graduate scheme and then doing her first operational management role with them, leading a team of >20 sludge tanker drivers. Her time at UU, which was her first real exposure to corporate business (outside of summer and weekend jobs) set her up for the rest of her career which has centred on general management and has included a logistics role for B&Q, an operational management role for Openreach leading a team of >500 people,  being Head of Terminal 2 at Manchester Airport and has ultimately taken her to where she is now at M247 as UK Managing Director. M247 are an international connectivity, cloud, hosting and voice company that started out, and continued to be head quartered in Manchester.

Students are supported and guided with applying for Colleges/Sixth Forms by their Tutors, Career Advisors and Work Related Learning Coordinator. Over the course of the year the students will be making some big decisions about their future. We are now using ‘OUR FUTURES’ for careers advice within our school. During the year the students will take part in a one to one career guidance interview in school with their Career Advisor Suzanne Acton. Our WRL Coordinator is Mrs Qureshi.

A Careers fair is held as part of our extensive CEIAG programme where students are able to talk to local colleges, training and apprenticeship providers so they can consider clearly their future options. The programme includes school visits, career talks with colleges, apprenticeship and training providers, employers and professionals, exhibitions, workshops and inspirational speakers.

Our career advisor Suzanne Acton is available on Wednesdays and Thursdays in school. Mrs Qureshi is available for consultation on 1st floor Crossley. There is also a drop in during morning break and lunch if the students have any quick questions about careers or education. To help you to prepare for your future career options the following websites are useful: National Careers Service and PLOTR – Young people are now expected to stay in education or training up until the age of 18.
