KS3 Offer

We are very proud of the broad and balanced career provision we offer to all of our students. At Key Stage 3, we are committed to building on their aspirations and help them discover, explore and focus on their career choices.

Year 7: I Discover

At the start of Year 7 students are encouraged to complete their I Matter journal which maps out their aspirations and potential career pathways. Students start to discover about themselves, to discover their own interest, skills and qualities. Year 7 are introduced to an online digital platform called Start. Start is a free and comprehensive digital platform, offering young people a single starting point to help simplify and improve careers guidance. The structured activates help students to make informed decision about their future study and career options. Careers programme also includes employer encounters, motivational speakers, trips and workshops.

Year 8: I Explore

In year 8 students are encouraged to explore their team working skills. They enhance their awareness of how to work under pressure and develop their problem-solving skills. They develop their confidence skills in speaking in front of groups by seeking to explain how they tackled a challenge and build their resilience skills. Staff signpost the student to our digital platform Start to further explore their career opportunities and to be ready to choose their subject options in year 9. This is further explored in encounters with employers, motivational speakers, trips and workshops.

Year 9: I Focus

Staff start to signpost students about where could their favourite subject take them. Year 9 are given pathway interviews with the Head of faculties. They attend Option assemblies and option booklets are made available for students to start focusing on the subjects they would like to take and carefully choose their options. They focus on transferable skills and a range of activities are developed through PSHE days to help recognise this. The digital platform Start is used and encouraged to focus on where each subject can lead to a career pathway.

Students are also encouraged to see school’s Career adviser and Work Related Learning coordinator to discuss possible future career pathways. Career adviser is also available for parents/carers on Options evening where appointments can be made online.
