Green Flag Award ( Published: 21/10/2022)
The Eco Leaders have been rewarded for all of their hard work and commitment to developing their own environmental knowledge and understanding, as well as sharing this knowledge with staff and students in the school community. The Eco Leaders worked on a wide range of projects across the last academic year with passion, enthusiasm and a real positive ‘can do’ attitude. The students decided to focus on three main areas, which included transport, the school environment and litter/recycling. Student projects included tree planning (supported by Manchester Environmental Education Network), climate change form time activities and assemblies, as well as promoting active travel to school.
Leaders attended a number of climate conferences, a Green Futures careers fair, a talk form a local GP on the impact of air pollution on child health, and a workshop on climate change education. Students also supported a ‘Keep Britain Tidy’ litter pick in Crossley Park and have begun to make links with the local cycle network at Station South.
This award is well deserved and a real testament to the student’s leadership skills and dedication to the environment. Mrs Weber, Mrs Bebbington, Mrs Hinde and Ms David-Akintunde are incredibly proud of all of your achievements this year.
It’s wonderful that you have appointed such a large and representative Eco-Committee, this shows your school’s excellent commitment to both the programme and the eco-cause.
We’re really impressed at how you’ve linked environmental issues to a variety of curriculum areas. We loved seeing the excellent examples of your teaching PowerPoints, student worksheets and lesson materials you kindly included. This is a great example of layering in sustainability and climate change into your studies.
Congratulations to everyone for the great work you have managed to do, earning your Green Flag with style. You should all be very proud of your work and the application you have submitted!
