Maths in Careers Event ( Published: 18/05/2023)
The event took place on Wednesday 10th May 2023, and saw inspiring role models from across Manchester share their career journeys with Year 10 students from two of the schools in our Trust (the Greater Manchester Education Trust).
There was a diverse group of role models from lawyers, data science leads, digital strategists, researcher investment partners and businesswomen, who delivered presentations on their career journeys with a focus on maths. The session touched on how the speaker’s had found maths when they were in school, and how it is used in their current roles. The speakers reminded students that problem solving, managing time and hectic schedules, are all valuable life skills and it’s important to recruit employees that can demonstrate a high standard of problem solving and reasoning skills.
The aim of the event was to raise awareness of the different career opportunities available with maths qualifications.
The event gave students insight into many mathematical opportunities, and how maths is directly or indirectly involved in different careers. Thank you to all of our wonderful speakers for giving up their time and making a big impression on our students. It was great to see women celebrating women!
