Students Inspired Through Sports Career Insights ( Published: 14/07/2026)
The sessions provided valuable insights into resilience, determination, leadership and the many career pathways available within the sports industry.
Students from different year groups met Danielle Taylor Gibbons, a former Liverpool goalkeeper, who shared her remarkable personal journey. She spoke openly about being diagnosed with a brain tumour and the challenges she faced during her recovery. Through courage, perseverance and determination, Danielle overcame significant obstacles and worked hard to return to the sport she loves. Her story inspired students to never give up on their goals, no matter what challenges they may face. As part of the visit, Danielle also had the honour of presenting the school’s Sports Personality of the Year Awards to students who had been nominated for their outstanding sporting achievements.
The second speaker was Yvonne Harrison, Chief Executive of Women in Football, who shared her passion for creating opportunities and raising aspirations for women in the game. She spoke about her career journey, the importance of leadership, and the work being done to promote equality and inclusion across the football industry. Our Year 7 students gained a fascinating insight into the diverse range of careers available in sport, from business and marketing to leadership.
Both of the career talks were inspirational and encouraged our students to explore future career opportunities within sport. The speakers delivered a powerful message about believing in yourself, overcoming challenges and pursuing your ambitions.
