End of Year Update ( Published: 17/07/2026)
Dear Parents/Carers
The end of a super year at Levenshulme High School is upon us. This is my fourth End of Half Term letter to you since joining at Christmas and these seven months have flown by. There is much to tell you about. I must, also, explain to you that we have hit a bump in the road with our video messages. Our intention was to send a video and letter to close each half term to keep you informed and allow you to see into our school more. There have, however, been some distressing incidents involving AI (artificial intelligence) manipulation of images of children across the country. We cannot take any risks with this, so we have had to pause the video updates for the moment.
Two weeks ago, Ofsted, the national education inspectorate, visited our school. Thank you to all the families who completed the Parent View survey and to all for their support. A team of six inspectors was on site during Day 1 and four were present on Day 2. They were hugely impressed by the work ethic and values of our learners. The happy environment and collaborative culture of the school was also much praised. Ofsted will finalise the report over the summer holidays before publishing it in September. We will send you a link as soon as that happens. From conversations with the inspection team, we know that their findings are positive and fair, which is great news for our school community.
The Ofsted report, alongside consultations realised in the summer term, will provide the perfect baseline from which to start our four-year plan in September. Levenshulme 2030 Best in Manchester Best in England sets out a vision and actions to further develop our wonderful school. In Year 1 of 4 of the plan there will be several developments. A two-week timetable is to be introduced to offer a more balanced curriculum. We will be having a Standards Drive to improve uniform, equipment and lesson punctuality, which all enable good learning. Two ‘Whole School Trip Days’ will be introduced to help the children build more profound cultural capital. Form Groups will be organised into Year Groups to allow for age specific Personal Development and to enable Year Teams to set standards daily. We will tell you more about developments and specific Year Group schedules for your children in Flying Start information evenings in the new academic year. The schedule is as follows:
Flying Start Information Evenings Schedule
| Year 11: | Wednesday 09/09/26 – 5.15pm to 5.50pm |
| Year 10: | Wednesday 16/09/26 – 5.15pm to 5.50pm |
| Year 9: | Wednesday 23/09/26 – 5.15pm to 5.50pm |
| Year 8: | Wednesday 30/09/26 – 5.15pm to 5.50pm |
| Year 7: | Wednesday 07/10/26 – 5.15pm to 5.50pm |
Unfortunately, I must inform you that it is going to be necessary to make a slight increase to the cost of meals from September. Food and associated costs have been rising rapidly for a sustained period of time, and we are proud that we have absorbed these challenges and not increased costs for families for five years. This has now become unsustainable, especially as we are determined that the excellent quality of our canteen food does not drop. From September our Meal Deal will cost £2.75. This is still extremely competitive in comparison with other schools and catering offers.
I always like to include highlights of the half term in these letters and to signpost you to our website (school news) and X account for more details. Year 10 College Trips have been fabulously informative, new Year 7 Transition Visits have been beautifully welcoming, Sports Day and the Sports Personality of the Year event were wonderful celebrations, the Prom at the Lowry on Salford Quays was a tremendous Year 11 send-off, our Year 9 Band made their debut live performance at Band on the Wall in Manchester and Drama performances by Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 have all been superb. Our Year 10s enjoyed wonderful live poetry from Amerah Saleh and then the school community had fabulous final days of reward at the Summer Fair and during own clothes Friday. A public thank you to our constituency MP Hannah Spencer, who visited in the final week to discuss matters of public policy and life at Westminster with learners.
Several members of staff are leaving us at the end of the year. We wish them all well in their new ventures, but we include special words of appreciation to three long-serving teachers. Mrs Kerr, Mrs Taylor and Mr Simpkins have served the community of Levenshulme for 23, 24 and 32 years respectively. What fabulous careers of care and provision! Huge numbers of children have benefited from your great teaching, and we all hope, and insist, that you leave us very proud of your amazing impact here. Thank you. Much appreciated. And we wish you the very best.
School now closes for the summer break. May you all enjoy lovely holidays with friends and family, and we look forward to welcoming learners back on 1st September. More details to follow.
Thank you for your brilliant support in 2025/26 and roll on 2026/27.
Best wishes,

Mr Fair
Headteacher
