Hello Healthcare Conference 2026 ( Published: 20/05/2026)
As part of our continued commitment to supporting all students in developing their knowledge and ambition, and to help them make informed choices about their futures beyond Levenshulme High School, a selection of Year 10 students participated in the ‘Hello Healthcare’ conference at The University of Manchester. During this event, they had the opportunity to hear from a range of professionals in the healthcare sector.
The conference opened with a clinical psychologist sharing his professional journey, alongside other speakers from pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, psychology, and speech and language therapy backgrounds. Students were given information about entry requirements and how to choose the right pathways for their future careers. They also had the opportunity to meet medical students and hear first-hand about their experiences of studying at university.
Student Feedback
At The University of Manchester, I joined an interesting healthcare careers session where I completed a questionnaire to note down what I already knew and what I learned afterwards about physiologists, nurses, dentists, and speech therapists. Before this, I only had a basic idea: I knew nurses cared for patients and dentists fixed teeth, but I didn’t realise physiologists actually study exactly how our bodies and organs function to keep us healthy or help treat illness, or that speech therapists do so much more than just help with speaking – they also support people who struggle to eat, drink or swallow safely, and we even tried a hands-on bubble activity to understand the challenges they face and how they help. I also got to have a go at practising teeth fillings using clay, which was brilliant fun and gave me a real sense of the care, precision and patience dental work needs. I found out so many new details too, like how nurses work everywhere from hospitals to people’s homes and cover every kind of care, or how dentists check for signs of general health issues as well as looking after teeth and gums. It was such an eye-opening experience to see just how different each role is, yet how they all work together as a team to support people’s health and wellbeing in so many amazing ways.
