Visit from Hannah Spencer MP ( Published: 17/07/2026)
Hannah Spencer was guided around our wonderful Summer Festival celebration before responding to questions from pupils in a Q+A session, led expertly by our Head Girl.
To help prepare pupils for the Q+A with their local MP, all pupils were invited to complete three sentences about the issues that matter most to them. Their responses focused on concerns facing young people today, challenges experienced by young women, and wider concerns about society and local communities.
Many pupils felt under pressure from stress, anxiety, and bullying in their local communities. They also worry about feeling unsafe because of crime, anti-social behaviour, and a lack of safe places and activities for young people.
As young women, they expressed that they felt judged by stereotypes and unrealistic expectations about how they should look, behave, or succeed. These pressures can affect their confidence and make girls feel they are not good enough.
Lastly, that people in wider society judge others too quickly because of their appearance, background, religion, or beliefs. They want a kinder society where everyone is treated with respect and feels they belong.
Hannah Spencer responded to all of these concerns and encouraged our pupils to continue to let her know about their views and lived experiences.
It is so important that young people feel a connection to politicians and understand that their main job is to represent and respond to their concerns. Developing our pupils’ voice, local and global awareness and wider understanding of democracy, is an important part of our personal development commitment. We are proud of all pupils who took this opportunity to hold their MP to account, and for building a relationship with their elected representative.
