Eco-Club Students Represent Our School at Environmental Conference ( Published: 17/11/2025)
The event was organised by MEEN (the Manchester Environmental Education Network), which brings together NGOs, schools, and individuals from both the public and private sectors who share an interest in environmental issues.
As part of their contribution, students from Levenshulme High School presented their research on how people in the United Kingdom connect with nature. Citing a recent study by Miles Richardson and colleagues, they explained that the UK is among the least “nature-connected” nations in the world — ranking 55th out of 61 countries surveyed. Nature connectedness is a psychological concept that measures the closeness of an individual’s relationship with other species.
The students also explored how perspectives on nature differ across cultures and countries. Their confident and engaging presentation prompted numerous questions from the audience and earned praise for both its content and delivery.
Following the presentation, students had the opportunity to network with researchers from the University of Manchester and meet peers from other schools. They also took part in a range of learning activities. For many, this was their first experience attending a conference, sparking thoughtful questions about academic pathways such as, “how do you become a researcher?” and “how can we attend a conference again?”
The Eco-Club students represented the school with enthusiasm and curiosity, making it a memorable and inspiring day for all involved.
