Unified Football Competition ( Published: 29/03/2019)

In association with Manchester United Foundation, pupils from Levenshulme and Whalley Range attended a Unified Football tournament held at Manchester Uniteds’ AON Training Centre.

Unified Football is a Special Olympics programme, which joins people with and without learning disabilities on to the same team. It’s inspired by a simple idea; training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.

In Unified Football, teams are made up of people of similar age and ability, which makes practices more exciting and fun for all. Their opponent is intolerance. Only shoulder-to-shoulder, as teammates together, can we defeat it.

It was fantastic to see all the pupils from both schools supporting and encouraging each other throughout the day. There were also plenty of smaller activities to keep everyone entertained between matches and it made for a really enjoyable day.
