Dear Parents/Carers
I would like to start by thanking the whole Levenshulme High School community for such a warm welcome since starting as your Headteacher in January. The half-term has been fabulous and has flown by. I have been sharing my reflections and perceptions of the school with learners in assemblies this week. They are as follows: Our students show wonderful work-ethic, politeness, values and strong character. Our staff are morally driven, talented and open to new initiatives. Our families are superbly supportive. Our school site enjoys excellent facilities and is a charming mix of old and new. Our governance structures, through the Greater Manchester Education Trust and Local Academy Committee, are strongly effective. We have an amazing school.
Strong communication is a very important part of a successful home-school partnership and, as such, I’d like to increase the regularity with which you receive Headteacher updates. I propose to send you a letter at the end of each half-term. In addition, we are going to send a video update each half-term, which will allow families to see into the school in between Progress Evenings and other visits. Our Head Girl, Fizza, has contributed to the first video, which accompanies this letter.
One of the stand-out highlights of the half-term has to be our show, The Addams Family. Three sell-out audiences were thrilled by a spectacular blend of drama, dance, singing, live music, costume, lights and creative set. It was brilliant. A huge public shout-out to two amazing casts who should be extremely proud of what they achieved. Well done to the staff team, who expertly nurtured our amazing actors.
Other highlights since the turn of the year include British Red Cross fundraising, welcoming our partners from the Muslim Arts and Culture Festival (MacFest) and all the Manchester United Foundation activities, such as Show Racism the Red Card, University of Manchester Science Societies Event and the Young Leaders Award.
On Monay 9th February, National Languages Week, Apprenticeship Week and Mental Health Week all started in tandem. A range of external speakers, drop-in sessions and special events have been attended and enjoyed by learners. Sporting successes this half-term have included silver and gold medals in KS4 badminton, our Year 7 football currently sitting 2nd in the leagues and great performances at Manchester Athletics (bronze in 800m, silver in 60m sprint and silver in high jump).
Work has started to better share news of all this provision via our social media channel X. Please use this link to access it and create an account to follow the school if you haven’t already: x.com/levenshulmehigh
On our X platform you will see our learners receiving an attendance award from Manchester City Council. This was awarded to the whole school. Learners, families and school staff should all take pride in this award and it provides a timely opportunity to reaffirm the importance of good attendance. All the evidence shows a very strong correlation between good attendance and excellent GCSE outcomes, so please continue to support us by not requesting absence in school time.
Year 11 mock exams (PPEs) start after next week’s holiday. Good luck to all with revision and the papers. Other year groups have a variety of exciting plans in the schedule, which include the next stage of the Options process for Year 9. Ramadan 2026 begins during the holiday and we wish a spiritual and peaceful month to all our families who partake. We would love as many families as possible to join us for our community Iftar on 5th March. Tickets are now available on ParentPay and are priced at £4 each. Eid al-Fitr will mark the end of Ramadan mid to late March. The school will close for an extra INSET (teacher training) day this year due to the fact that a large number of learners will be absent for this day of religious observance and celebration. The precise day that will be taken as INSET will be announced in the lead-up to Eid.
Thank you in advance for your support with this.
And thank you for your support with everything, it is much appreciated.
Mr Fair
Headteacher
